Here are some of our group reflections on our tasks in the cleanup process.

After the disaster we went onto the site to see what the damage was. The room was blacked out so we had to go in, in small groups with torches and record our reactions.

The scene was devastating. All our homes were destroyed and we couldn't find our belongings. It was hard to believe. We were really shocked and upset and sad. Was this how other people felt after disasters struck their communities? What do you do next ? How do you cope ?

Veronica - I described what the scene was like. All I can say was it was freaky. Mess everywhere.

Mark & Paige - We were sad but wanting to clean up and rebuild. We kept thinking about the memories we'd lost.

Matt - I was just stunned by the mess.

Nadia - I felt like a reporter in a disaster. Everything was gone.but you had to support each other. I felt freaked out.

Casey - Veronica and I got out quickly. You couldn't save much .

Stacey I'm stunned I don't start talking until 26 secs and it's worse than i thought.

Te Kawhai - I was very scared, shocked and sad when I saw how bad it was. It must feel awful when you lose your home, your things and sometimes your family.
